I had twice lost my job within 10 years due to global restructuring (the term they like to use to fire people`s ass). Although I have found another job and am still working here after 2 years, I can almost predict that I will lose my job again for the same reason in the not too distant future. In fact, there are rumours that my current `american multinational` company will divest the business to one of their competitors. My learnings are - 1. fuck your steady job.start doing your own business at the same time just in case 2.whenever your CEO talk about career opportunities and loyalty to the company, you should point your middle finger at his face. He will probably leave the company after 2 years anyway 3.as we age and the fucking world heads towards modernization, there will be less job available and nobody is going to help you unless you help yourself now!!!! so start your own business today [520]

I worked for the company for 2 years now and found out yesterday that they are closing the business. I had applied for another job a week ago and then found out that I am overqualified for the position. What is even worse is that I worked for the company for 8 years and left on a re-hire status.... re-hire my ass.... They could hire two people for the rate of pay they would have to pay me. To put the icing on the cake my husband lost his job 2 weeks ago also. I really believe it is who you know and not what you know. You are programmed as a child to get an education and you will suceed. I worked my way up in the grocery business literally from the bottom as a courtesy clerk at 23 and 10 years later I was running a store. I feel like I have worked so hard to accomplish nothing. I thought about lying on my applications and then if I got hired I would probably get fired for lying on my application. It makes you relaly wonder what America`s business are coming too. Seems to me they want to see how many bodies they can put in one establishment for the least amount of money. [214]

It`s my understanding that I lost my job because I did a GOOD job! It wasn`t my work productivity, but my personality flaws - even though they weren`t/aren`t nearly as difficult to deal with as my ex-supervisor`s flaws, negative attitude, lack of problem-solving skills and lack of formal education. Do I sound angry? Yes, and I need to move on, I know that the longer I stay stuck in my anger, the longer the "bastards will get me down." The truth is, I have great skills and knowledge, and also resources to see me through this transitory time. Every day I can see how losing my job was a blessing in that it forced self introspection and re-prioritizing of what I really want to do in my life - to have a higher quality life. Being a 50-year-old female is scary enough in the U.S. mainstream culture; losing a job at 50 can cause overt panic! But, wait! Yes, I`m 50, and educated, and have 25 years of work experience, not to mention volunteer and other personal experiences...and, I`ve maintained current skills and knowledge in my field - and have a LOT to offer an employer. More important, what can a job offer to me? I have some time to analyze the answer, which is a luxury that full-time workers can`t afford... I`m hanging in, and you do, too. Get busy, kill the anger, and believe in yourself. You have value! [163]
